Large Animal Technical Rescue is a dangerous undertaking. Animals that are stressed or injured can be unpredictable and their actions can be explosive. Education, training, and experience allows individuals responding to a disaster to be effective for the animal while protecting themselves, their fellow rescuers, and the public from injury and loss. While no situation is made safe solely by knowledge, understanding the principles and techniques utilized in large animal rescue is the first step.

Large animal rescue has two distinct pieces: TEACHING veterinarians, first responders and animal owners how to rescue animals safely and HELPING animals and the people assisting them during technical rescues.

Wisconsin Large Animal Emergency Response may be available to assist veterinarians, Law Enforcement and Fire departments with a professional technical response to large animal incidents. WLAER response may be limited due to geographic location and equipment logistics. Please contact your local veterinarian and/or Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) prior to contacting WALER to optimize the response and our ability to assist with the incident.
